  • Pea Minnesota med-tall

    • $5.00

Rare heirloom shelling pea was developed in Minnesota prior to 1940. It is very early and produces sweet tasty peas in small pods. One of the first peas to mature in the garden.

    Peas (Pisum sativum)

Peas can be separated into starchy (smooth seeded) and sweet (wrinkled seeded) types. They have been further selected for edible young leaves and pods. The Sugar Snap types are a relatively recent introduction of the late 70’s; as such you will not find them offered here. Pisum sativum var. arvense (pigmented seed) are starchy types adapted to cool weather and are typically grown for forage, although the seeds have a rich flavor. Peas are inbreeding and rarely cross, however, isolation distances of 100 meters are suggested if absolute purity is desired.
